Substance abuse, also known as drug abuse, refers to a maladaptive pattern of use of a substance that is not considered dependent. The term "drug abuse" does not exclude dependency, but is otherwise used in a similar manner in nonmedical contexts. The terms have a huge range of definitions related to taking a psychoactive drug or performance enhancing drug for a non-therapeutic or non-medical effect. All of these definitions imply a negative judgment of the drug use in question (compare with the term responsible drug use for alternative views). Some of the drugs most often associated with this term include alcohol, amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methaqualone, and opioids. Use of these drugs may lead to criminal penalty in addition to possible physical, social, and psychological harm, both strongly depending on local jurisdiction. How will I be able to find substance abuse treatment programs in Cleveland, Georgia?
Q. I'm doing this for a special project in school. As part of my report, I wanted to be able to include a few interviews of people who are undergoing a substance abuse treatment program. Does anybody know how I can get a hold of contact numbers of treatment centers?

A. It sounds like an interesting project, and I hope you do well. Look in the yellow pages. You will find a list of the addiction treatment centers in your area there. Make sure to call first to ask them if you can interview the patients. Below are links that might be helpful. Good luck!

A. There are lots of ways by which you can find treatment centers that your friend can get into. You can get him to a doctor and ask for recommendations. It would be best to have a bsw a bachelors degree in social work that can help you in your quest to better understand the logic in peoples addiction. but it take a caring and understanding person to be a counselor, some of the best counselors are previous addicts that can share their experiences in life.. lots of luck
