In biology, an organism is any living system (such as animal, plant, fungus, or micro-organism). In at least some form, all organisms are capable of response to stimuli, reproduction, growth and development, and maintenance of homeostasis as a stable whole. An organism may either be unicellular (single-celled) or be composed of, as in humans, many billions of cells grouped into specialized tissues and organs. The term multicellular (many-celled) describes any organism made up of more than one cell.

The term "organism" (Greek ὀργανισμός - organismos, from Ancient Greek ὄργανον - organon "organ, instrument, tool") first appeared in the English language in 1701 and took on its current definition by 1834 (Oxford English Dictionary).

Scientific classification in biology considers organisms synonymous with life on Earth. Based on cell type, organisms may be divided into the prokaryotic and eukaryotic groups. The prokaryotes represent two separate domains, the Bacteria and Archaea. Eukaryotic organisms, with a membrane-bounded cell nucleus, also contain organelles, namely mitochondria and (in plants) plastids, generally considered to be derived from endosymbiotic bacteria. Fungi, animals and plants are examples of species that are eukaryotes.

More recently a clade, Neomura, has been proposed, which groups together the Archaea and Eukarya. Neomura is thought to have evolved from Bacteria, more specifically from Actinobacteria.

How do global warming affect the life of flora and fauna?
Q. May I know how do global warming affect the life of flora and fauna? Please reply my post together with the evidence/ example.

A. The current fluctuating global temperatures are not suitable for each and every plant and animal. There is a lot to discuss but as you are not specific I'll talk about polar bears the inhabitants of Arctic. Due to temperature rise the ice of Arctic is melting out at a steady and quick rate and thus polar bears are losing their habitat. Moreover they are not adapted to temperatures which are currently very high for them. So they are an endangered specie now. Talking about corals. They need temp. between 20 & 25 degree celcius which is not maintained and thus they are getting destroyed with the polyps who create this corals and with corals millions of species of fish which reside in the corals. Eg. Great Barrier Reef. For more info. feel… [cont.]

A. It is difficult to place nature within political boundaries as used when humans define the area of particular places within a region (as Aberdeen pertains to South Dakota). This stated the Flora and Fauna of the region generally is: Flora Oak, maple, beech, birch, hickory, and willow are all represented in South Dakota's forests while thickets of chokecherry, wild plum, gooseberry, and currant are found in the eastern part of the state. Pasqueflower (Anemone ludoviciana) is the state flower; other wild flowers are beardtongue, bluebell, and monkshood. No South Dakota plant species were listed as threatened or endangered in 2003. Fauna Familiar native mammals are the coyote (the state animal), porcupine, raccoon, bobcat, buffalo,… [cont.]
