Experience as a general concept comprises knowledge of or skill in or observation of some thing or some event gained through involvement in or exposure to that thing or event. The history of the word experience aligns it closely with the concept of experiment.

The concept of experience generally refers to know-how or procedural knowledge, rather than propositional knowledge. Philosophers dub knowledge based on experience "empirical knowledge" or "a posteriori knowledge".

The interrogation of experience has a long tradition in continental philosophy. Experience is an important aspect of the philosophy of Søren Kierkegaard. The German term Erfahrung, often translated into English as "experience" has a slightly different implication, connoting the coherency of life's experiences.

A person with considerable experience in a certain field can gain a reputation as an expert.

Certain religious traditions (such as types of Buddhism, Surat Shabd Yoga and mysticism) and educational paradigms with, for example, the conditioning of boot camps, stress the experiential nature of human epistemology. This stands in contrast to alternatives: traditions of dogma, logic or reasoning. Activities such as tourism, extreme sports and recreational drug use also tend to stress the importance of experience.

What are your experiences with bursitis?
Q. My doctor has diagnosed me with bursitis. What were your experiences with the condition as in pain and location on the body . How long did it last and what remedies did you use? What do you think caused your bursitis and how intense was the pain. My doctor explained the condition and I also did a search and learned all about it. But it would be very helpful hearing from those who have experienced it. Thank you.

Why is it so negative in society to discuss black peoples historical experiences and oppression?
Q. I've noticed people are afraid to discuss the experiences black people had to endure in this country. Somehow it is being imposed in our psychology that what black people experienced must be ignored or neglected because of the fear of scrutiny.

A. It makes other people (specifically whites) feel uncomfortable. Which in all honesty it really shouldn t. Yes it was an unfortunate and to some shameful chapter in their history but the reason why we learn/discuss slavery is to ensure history never repeats itself.

What are your experiences with tracheomalacia or floppy airway?
Q. My son was diagnosed with this after being born, I've always thought it was from him having his cord around his neck twice and up under his arm. He has yet to go to a pulmonologist, but I have the number (it's a very long drive to the specialist). What are your experiences with it? Did they grow out of this problem? How did you help your baby?

A. My son had this (he's 11 now). It was a difficult time, I had to give up breastfeeding at only about 6 weeks or so because he kept aspirating (fluid in lungs) liquids that he was drinking - his chest sounded awful. Also he had asthma and bronchiolitis - he was admitted I think 5-6 times !! It the blur.. I recall we were given a way to thicken his formula - cut a large hole in bottle. I can't remember at what age so don't follow this type of advice without consulting a doc. but the thick liquids really helped. I moved him to solid food much much faster than my other kids - he was eating off a spoon some thick formula and mashed banana at quite a young age, but that really seemed to help him. He outgrew all this - but even as a… [cont.]
