Ecuador (pronounced /ˈɛkwədɔr/ ( listen)), officially the Republic of Ecuador (Spanish: República del Ecuador, pronounced [reˈpuβlika ðel ekwaˈðor]), literally, "Republic of the equator") is a representative democratic republic in South America, bordered by Colombia on the north, Peru on the east and south, and by the Pacific Ocean to the west. The country also includes the Galápagos Islands in the Pacific, about 1,000 kilometers (620 mi) west of the mainland. Ecuador straddles the equator, from which it takes its name, and has an area of 283.561 km2, 109,415 sq ml. Its capital city is Quito, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the 1970s for having the best preserved and least altered historic center in Latin America. The country's largest city is Guayaquil. The historic center of Cuenca, the third largest city in the country, was also declared a World Heritage Site in 1999, for being an outstanding example of a planned inland Spanish style colonial city in the Americas. Ecuador is also home—despite its size—to a great variety of species, many of them endemic, like those of the Galápagos islands. This species diversity makes Ecuador one of the seventeen megadiverse countries in the world. The new constitution of 2008 is the first in the world to recognize legally enforceable Rights of Nature, or ecosystem rights. Ecuador is a presidential republic and became independent in 1830, after having been part of the Spanish colonial empire and the republic of Gran Colombia. It is a medium-income country with an HDI score of 1.025 (2010), and about 35.1% of the people living below the poverty line. From Wikipedia under the

If you are saying you have the currency of Ecuador and not $100 USD, you don't have anything of value. Ecuador no longer issues its own currency and they use the US Dollar as official currency. It has been this way for more than 9 years. Back when you could exchange sucres for dollars, it took 25,000 of them to equal a dollar. If you have only $100, you don't even have a penny. You can't buy anything! Answered by Display Name - Tue Oct 20 15:13:35 2009 How to get a short time teaching job in Ecuador? Q. Q. I've been within a few miles of this volcano and I love Ecuador. I was there just 3 weeks ago and plan on perhaps going back to live there. Currently I live in Mississippi, USA. Asked by TryingToLearn - Tue Jul 18 17:14:37 2006 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments A. I live in Ecuador, so what exactly would you like to know? Basically we've been expecting for it to eruptionate for years, and this time they were careless in my opinion. They prepared the people living there quite well a few years ago but now it's a whole tragedy happening there. The actual eruption wasn't that extreme but the problem is that there are a lot of explosions currently going on every day and night and it's highly probable that the "big" eruption will repeat. Currently, people in that area have all types of problems, most involving ashes and their crops and cattle as they rely on them and now the ash is causing them to die, leaving those people without any income or food whatsoever except for the contributions people are… [cont.] Answered by lovelyD - Fri Jul 21 00:16:50 2006 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Ecuador"
